Whilst researching for my book on the 10th Intake I decided to set up a photograph depicting some of the gear an Infantry soldier wore whilst patrolling in Vietnam. This picture is only a small indication of the total gear a man would carry around his body. Generally the weight would be around 80lbs. Those in a Tracker Platoon would also carry food and water for the dog as well as many other items too numerous to mention.
I have managed to compile a fairly accurate list of gear which is contained in Chapter 19 - Beasts of Burden.
